Communal space and studios
During your stay at Little French Retreat, you'll find yourself immersed in tranquility of a cozy, comfortable country house nestled in the historic village of Montesquieu, in southwest France.
The house, though unassuming from the outside, reveals itself to be surprisingly spacious, with three floors covering 200m2 and thoughtfully designed corners and soothing colours that create an inviting atmosphere, perfect for relaxation, creativity, and dreaming. The space is filled with books on health, well-being, and creativity, offering inspiration and insights as you unwind.
Each residency room includes a private writing desk for quiet reflection and creative work.
Artists have access to two dedicated studio spaces:
A 25m² painter’s studio, flooded with natural light and overlooking the garden — ideal for sketching, painting, or visual journaling.
A 40m² pottery workshop, spacious and sunlit, with wide views across the valley. The current kiln is suited to earthenware firing temperatures only.
Images of these creative spaces will be available in August 2025, once the renovations are complete and the studios are fully reimagined.
bed rooms
Both guest rooms have been thoughtfully decorated in soothing tones to create a peaceful environment that promotes rest and relaxation. Each room is equipped with a high-quality mattress and pure cotton sheets, ensuring you have a comfortable and rejuvenating night's sleep. Each room has an ensuite bathroom, complete with provided toiletries including towels, soap, and shampoo.
During your free time, you can choose from several inviting spaces to unwind. You might borrow a book from the library and settle into the cozy lounge by the warmth of the wood-burning stove, creating a perfect spot for quiet reflection. If you prefer a bit of solitude, the garden offers private spots where you can relax and take in the stunning views over the valley. Alternatively, the shady veranda provides a serene setting to enjoy the tranquil surroundings and the peaceful rhythm of life at the house.
residents
Little French Retreat is also home to a lovable menagerie of rescued furry friends, including dogs Lucien and Edie, and a cat named Suri. These animals add an extra layer of warmth and soul to the retreat's atmosphere, making it feel even more like a home away from home. Please bring necessary precautions or medication should you suffer with allergies or sensitivities.
